Henderson Security – The Early Years
Henderson Security has had a footprint in Ottawa and the surrounding area goes back almost 60 years. Our founder Bob Henderson started Universal Alarms in the Byward Market back in 1959. We are proud to say that Universal Alarms was the first electronic security company in Eastern Canada.
The Canadian Alarm and Security Association (CANASA)
In 1977, Bob Henderson founded the Canadian Alarm and Security Association (CANASA). CANASA, also known as the Canadian Security Association, is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing the security industry. It is the national voice to speak on behalf of security companies of all sizes and areas of expertise. Today CANASA is the main voice of our industry, boasting over 1,000 active members in ten regions across Canada.

Bob Henderson also believed that it was the responsibility of all security professionals to align with the values of integrity, trust, communication, accountability, leadership, professionalism, continuous improvement and perhaps most importantly, a client focus.
The Modern Henderson Security
At the time of Bob’s passing in 1982, Universal Alarms had grown to be one of the largest independent security companies in Canada. Bob’s son, Doug has been carrying his father’s legacy and, together with his strong team of security professionals, is heavily involved in his customer’s protection and his company’s success.
