THE HENDERSON FAMILY HAS BEEN PROTECTING OTTAWA'S
HOMES AND BUSINESSES FOR OVER 40 YEARS.
For over four decades, the Henderson family has built an enviable
reputation as Ottawa's finest alarm and security company. Robert A.
(Bob) Henderson began his security business on Rideau Street in 1959
under the name Universal Alarms Ltd. Two years later, Bob moved the
business to the Byward Market (above the lrving Rivers Store) and
operated the company from this location until 1986.

1917 - 1982
Under Bob Henderson's leadership, Universal
Alarms flourished and grew into a thriving business. Bob's honesty,
fair prices, and common-sense approach to dealing with customers
earned him a reputation as "Mr. Security" throughout the
region.
Working seven days a week, with
his wife Gypsie by his side, Bob's dedication to his customers became
legendary and by 1986 the company had sold over 6,000 security systems
and was providing monitoring services to thousands of loyal customers.
From the very beginning, Bob Henderson
believed in giving back to the community as well as to his industry.
He founded CANASA, the Canadian Alarm and Security Association,
and after his death in 1982, the Board of CANASA established the
Robert A. Henderson Award which is given annually to a security
professional who has demonstrated sound business ethics and who
has contributed to the well-being of the Canadian security industry.

Henderson - President and CEO
In 1986, Gypsie Henderson sold the family business
to Honeywell. At the time of this sale, Bob's son Doug, who had learned
the security business under the watchful eye of his father, and at
the time was still active in the business, left Universal Alarms to
pursue other interests.
Soon Doug Henderson started his own security company, X-CEL Security.
Doug sold X-CEL in 1998 and several months later, started Henderson
Security Solutions.
Henderson Security Solutions opened in October 1998 on Woodroffe Avenue
next to the Carlingwood Shopping Centre. In the early days, Doug Henderson
and his wife, Bev, worked tirelessly to re-establish their historic
connections with many former customers and old friends. Within two
years, the couple had built Henderson into Ottawa's largest independently
owned security company. Their vision is to provide customers with
the best possible security equipment, the best possible value, and
a local monitoring service "guaranteed to perform" when
needed in an emergency

Doug is extremely proud of the growth
of his family owned company which couldn't have happened without the
support of his wife Bev. Bev helped in all areas of the company from
working directly with customers to helping manage the finances of
the business. She is deeply missed. |
